Richard Seoane is a visionary executive and global leader in vehicle safety, infrared perception, and next-generation automotive sensing technologies. With more than 31 years of automotive industry experience and 33 years in infrared technology, Richard is recognized for bridging advanced engineering with strategic business execution while building and leading cross-regional organizations responsible for bringing breakthrough safety innovations from early concept through global deployment.
Over the course of his career, Richard helped pioneer the world’s first production infrared vision system, helping shape the evolution of thermal imaging and perception technologies within the automotive industry. He has successfully guided multiple OEM programs through architecture development, validation, launch, and international commercialization, with expertise spanning infrared hardware, perception systems, vehicle integration, regulatory strategy, and global business operations.
Richard has held numerous executive leadership roles throughout his career, including Vice President of Global Operations, Vice President of Business Development, and Director of Global Innovation. He has worked extensively with leading global automotive manufacturers including General Motors, Stellantis, Peugeot, Citroën, DS Automobiles, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Ford, Volkswagen Group, Porsche, Audi, Bentley, Volvo, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, Hyundai-Kia Motor Company (HKMC), Geely, BYD, and Jaguar Land Rover, among others.
As CEO of Sylux, Richard leads the company’s global business unit and long-term strategic vision, overseeing the development of scalable infrared sensing and perception platforms designed to advance vehicle safety, driver awareness, and intelligent mobility. Under his leadership, Sylux continues to position itself at the forefront of automotive infrared innovation, aligning emerging technologies with evolving global safety initiatives and regulatory standards including FMVSS 127 and Global NCAP.
Richard is also an inventor and patent holder in advanced vehicle sensing technologies. His patent, “Vehicle Elevated Body Temperature Identification” (U.S. Patent No. 11,885,687), introduces a non-contact thermal detection system utilizing thermography and intelligent imaging analysis to identify elevated body temperature within vehicle passenger cabins. The patent was granted on January 30, 2024, and assigned to VEONEER US, LLC.
